The Two Main Hiking Routes
There are two main routes for this hike:
Hanging Garden Trail (5 km round-trip) β This route is suitable for beginners and those who prefer a more relaxed pace. It offers stunning wadi peak views and leads to the Hanging Garden, a well-known beginners summit point where hikers can take a break and enjoy the surroundings.
Full Leopard Canyon Loop (8 km total) β This more challenging route continues beyond Hanging Garden, ascending steeply toward Leopard Canyon. It includes sections with technical and non-technical rock climbing, making it ideal for experienced hikers looking for an adventurous experience.
How to Reach the Leopard Canyon Hiking Start Point
To get to the starting point from Dubai, take the old Jebel Jais road (approximately 90 minutes). Stop at the Tea Shop on the old Jebel Jais road and take the right rough road behind the Tea Shop for about 8 km. Once you reach Wadi Al Nimr village, park near the farmhouse and start the trek.
Hike Difficulty and Terrain
Leopard Canyon presents a challenging trek featuring diverse terrains, including:
Boulder walks
Loose stones
Rock climbing (technical and non-technical)
Unmarked trails
Donkey routes
The hike begins in Wadi Al Nimr village, following a trail that meanders through rugged landscapes shaped by floods and rains. The first checkpoint, Hanging Garden, serves as a well-known summit point for beginner hikers. Here, you can enjoy spectacular views and take a well-deserved break.
For those continuing, the trail ascends steeply toward Leopard Canyon, offering breathtaking views of the wadi, peaks, and canyons. Along the way, hikers can stop for photography and water breaks.
Climbing and Exploration
The journey includes a climb to the second canyon, where you’ll navigate a vertical rock wall (10-15 meters) via technical or non-technical routes. After another rest stop, take in the raw beauty of the surroundings before beginning the descent.
Leopard Canyon Descent
The descent follows a narrow trail through Chan Village, passing old stone houses and encountering local wildlife, including goats and donkeys. Hikers then cross the village gorge and return to Al Nimr village, completing the full 8 km loop.
