Overview
Experience the extraordinary beauty of Pakistan's Karakoram on our 17-Day Express K2 Base Camp Trek, a remarkable high-altitude adventure designed for experienced trekkers seeking to explore the legendary Baltoro Glacier and Concordia within a shorter holiday.
Beginning in Islamabad, the journey takes you through Skardu and Askole before following the classic Baltoro route into the heart of the Karakoram. The trail winds through dramatic valleys, rugged mountain landscapes and remote camps, gradually revealing towering granite peaks and immense glaciers. Along the way, trekkers pass through Jhola, Paiju, Khoburtse and the spectacular upper Baltoro Glacier.
The highlight of this journey is Concordia, one of the world's most extraordinary mountain viewpoints. Often described as the Throne Room of the Mountain Gods, Concordia is surrounded by a magnificent panorama of snow-covered summits, including K2 (8,611 m), Broad Peak and the Gasherbrum massif. Standing among these giants, with glaciers stretching in every direction, is an unforgettable experience and one of the greatest rewards of trekking in the Karakoram.
Our planned itinerary includes a dedicated rest and acclimatization day at Paiju and two nights at Concordia, allowing trekkers time to appreciate this remarkable mountain setting. An optional day excursion toward K2 Base Camp (approximately 5,150 metres) offers an additional adventure for those wishing to explore farther, subject to suitable mountain conditions and acclimatization. Alternatively, trekkers can enjoy more time at Concordia, taking in its breathtaking scenery.
Designed for physically fit trekkers with previous mountain trekking experience, this express journey combines challenging glacier terrain, spectacular landscapes and the unforgettable atmosphere of the Karakoram. The return follows the classic Baltoro route without crossing Gondogoro La, with the 17-day schedule providing additional flexibility for the return journey and travel arrangements.

Itinerary
Skardu Preparations and Flight Contingency
Today provides flexibility for domestic flight arrangements and final preparations before entering the remote Karakoram.
If the group reached Skardu on Day 1, the day can be used to rest, organize trekking equipment, review the expedition plan and complete outstanding logistics. Depending on the available time, there may also be an opportunity to explore Skardu and appreciate the surrounding mountain scenery.
If the outbound flight was delayed, this day is reserved for reaching Skardu, subject to airline availability and weather. The trekking team will review the onward schedule and necessary arrangements before departure toward Askole.
Overnight: Hotel in Skardu, subject to the final travel arrangements.
Scenic Drive from Skardu to Askole
Leaving Skardu behind, we begin a memorable journey by road toward Askole, the traditional gateway to the Baltoro Glacier and K2 Base Camp trekking route.
Our drive passes through the dramatic landscapes of the Shigar and Braldu valleys, where mountain villages, cultivated fields and rugged river gorges reveal the changing character of Baltistan. As we travel deeper into the Karakoram, the scenery becomes increasingly remote and spectacular.
The journey follows mountain roads that can be rough and affected by weather or local conditions. On arrival at Askole, we meet the trekking support team, organize equipment and prepare for the days ahead.
Overnight: Camping at Askole, approximately 3,000 metres.
Trek from Askole to Jhola
Our first trekking day takes us from Askole into the magnificent wilderness of the Karakoram, following the traditional approach toward the Baltoro Glacier.
The route passes through a remarkable landscape of rocky valleys, powerful mountain rivers and towering peaks. Along the way, we approach the Biafo Glacier region and continue through the Braldu Valley toward Jhola, where the great mountains begin to dominate the horizon.
This opening stage introduces trekkers to the remote terrain and expedition camping experience that characterize the journey. We walk at a steady pace, with opportunities to enjoy the scenery and settle into the rhythm of trekking.
Overnight: Camping at Jhola, approximately 3,100–3,200 metres.
Trek from Jhola to Paiju
Today's trek continues along the beautiful Braldu Valley toward Paiju, one of the most important camps on the classic K2 Base Camp route.
As we progress through the rugged landscape, the extraordinary granite formations of the Trango Towers and Cathedral group begin to command attention. The surrounding peaks and distant glaciers offer a magnificent introduction to the greater Baltoro region.
The trail follows a combination of rocky paths, river terraces and undulating mountain terrain before reaching Paiju, situated near the beginning of the Baltoro Glacier.
Paiju provides a welcome opportunity to relax beneath the towering Karakoram peaks and prepare for the more demanding glacier trekking ahead.
Overnight: Camping at Paiju, approximately 3,400–3,450 metres.
Rest and Acclimatization at Paiju
Today is dedicated to rest and acclimatization at Paiju before we continue toward the upper Baltoro Glacier.
Surrounded by spectacular mountain scenery, Paiju is an important traditional stopping point for trekkers and mountaineering expeditions. The day allows participants to recover from the approach, organize personal equipment and prepare for the higher-altitude stages ahead.
Those feeling well may enjoy a gentle walk around the camp and nearby surroundings, while others can relax and appreciate the remarkable views of Paiju Peak, the Trango Towers and the Cathedral group.
Our trekking team will review the group's condition and preparations before entering the more demanding glacier terrain.
Overnight: Camping at Paiju, approximately 3,400–3,450 metres.
Trek from Paiju to Khoburtse: Enter the Baltoro Glacier
Today marks one of the most exciting transitions of the journey as we leave Paiju and begin trekking along the legendary Baltoro Glacier.
The landscape changes dramatically as we cross rocky moraine, uneven glacial terrain and sections of ice beneath some of the world's most impressive granite formations.
The remarkable Trango Towers, Uli Biaho and Cathedral peaks dominate the surrounding scenery, creating an extraordinary setting for our first major day on the glacier.
After negotiating the changing terrain of the lower Baltoro, we continue toward Khoburtse, where spectacular mountain views reward the day's efforts.
Overnight: Camping at Khoburtse, approximately 3,800–3,900 metres.
Trek from Khoburtse to Goro I or Goro II via Urdukas
Our adventure continues deeper into the Baltoro Glacier as we leave Khoburtse and follow the route toward Urdukas and the Goro camps.
The journey offers breathtaking views of the Trango Towers, Cathedral peaks and the immense surrounding glacier landscape. We pass the scenic Urdukas area, one of the most remarkable viewpoints above the Baltoro, before continuing into the higher glacial environment.
As we advance, the landscape becomes increasingly dramatic, with extensive ice formations, rocky moraine and towering snow-covered mountains.
This is one of the longer and more demanding stages of our Express itinerary. The planned campsite is Goro II, with Goro I available as an alternative depending on trekking progress, weather, terrain conditions and the group's acclimatization.
Overnight: Camping at Goro I or Goro II, approximately 4,150–4,350 metres.
Trek to Concordia: The Throne Room of the Mountain Gods
Today brings us to the magnificent heart of the Karakoram: Concordia, one of the world's most extraordinary mountain viewpoints.
Following the upper Baltoro Glacier, we trek through a vast landscape of ice and moraine surrounded by towering peaks. As we approach Concordia, the mountain panorama becomes increasingly spectacular, revealing Broad Peak, Gasherbrum IV, Mitre Peak and the surrounding giants of the Karakoram.
The unforgettable highlight is the appearance of K2 (8,611 metres), the world's second-highest mountain, rising majestically above the Godwin-Austen Glacier.
Often called the Throne Room of the Mountain Gods, Concordia is where the Baltoro and Godwin-Austen glaciers meet, creating a remarkable natural amphitheatre surrounded by some of Earth's greatest mountains.
We establish camp and spend the remainder of the day appreciating the extraordinary scenery, with opportunities for photography and relaxation.
Overnight: Camping at Concordia, approximately 4,500–4,600 metres.
Optional K2 Base Camp Excursion or Rest at Concordia
Wake up surrounded by one of the most spectacular mountain panoramas anywhere in the world, with K2, Broad Peak and the surrounding Karakoram giants rising above Concordia.
For trekkers wishing to explore farther, today offers an optional excursion toward K2 Base Camp, approximately 5,150 metres above sea level. Starting early, the route follows the Godwin-Austen Glacier toward the Broad Peak Base Camp area and onward toward K2, with extraordinary views of the mountain's immense slopes and surrounding peaks.
Where conditions and available time permit, the excursion may also include a visit to the Gilkey Memorial, which commemorates climbers who lost their lives on K2.
Alternatively, trekkers may remain at Concordia to rest, photograph the mountains and enjoy the exceptional scenery at a more relaxed pace.
Participants undertaking the excursion return to Concordia for the night, subject to appropriate acclimatization, safe glacier conditions and the trekking team's operational assessment.
Overnight: Camping at Concordia, approximately 4,500–4,600 metres.
Trek from Concordia to Goro II
After an extraordinary stay at Concordia, we begin our return journey along the upper Baltoro Glacier.
Leaving behind the magnificent panorama of K2 and Broad Peak, we retrace our route through the vast glacial landscape toward Goro II. Although we follow familiar terrain, the changing light and direction reveal entirely new perspectives of the surrounding peaks.
The impressive mountain walls of Gasherbrum IV, Masherbrum and the distant granite towers provide a spectacular backdrop as we gradually descend through the glacier.
We continue carefully across the changing ice and moraine before establishing camp at Goro II, surrounded by the dramatic high mountains of the Karakoram.
Overnight: Camping at Goro II, approximately 4,250–4,350 metres.
Trek from Goro II to Khoburtse via Urdukas
Today's journey continues down the Baltoro Glacier, passing through the remarkable mountain scenery surrounding Urdukas before returning toward Khoburtse.
As we descend, the enormous granite formations of the Trango Towers, Cathedral group and Uli Biaho become increasingly prominent. The changing perspective offers excellent opportunities to appreciate the dramatic scale and beauty of the lower Baltoro.
The route involves extended walking across glacial moraine and uneven mountain terrain. Passing the Urdukas area, we continue toward Khoburtse, following the safest available trail through the glacier landscape.
After a demanding trekking day, we reach our campsite and enjoy the increasingly familiar surroundings of the lower Baltoro.
Overnight: Camping at Khoburtse, approximately 3,800–3,900 metres.
Trek from Khoburtse to Paiju
We continue our descent toward Paiju, leaving the higher sections of the Baltoro Glacier behind.
The journey offers another opportunity to admire the extraordinary Trango Towers, Cathedral peaks and surrounding granite walls from a different perspective. As we progress, the landscape gradually changes from extensive glacial moraine toward the rocky valleys and lower terrain near Paiju.
After several nights in the higher mountains, the return to Paiju provides a welcome opportunity to rest and reflect on the journey through Concordia and the heart of the Karakoram.
We establish camp and prepare for the final trekking and transportation stages.
Overnight: Camping at Paiju, approximately 3,400–3,450 metres.
Trek from Paiju to the Roadhead and Return to Skardu
Today we continue down the Braldu Valley toward the accessible roadhead, marking the final trekking stage of our journey through the Karakoram wilderness.
Starting early, we follow the descending trail through the dramatic valley landscape, enjoying our last views of the towering granite peaks and remote mountain scenery that have accompanied us throughout the expedition.
The exact walking distance depends on the location of the operational roadhead, which may vary with bridge access, road conditions and seasonal maintenance.
Where vehicles can reach the agreed pickup point and sufficient travel time remains, we continue by road through the Braldu and Shigar valleys toward Skardu.
If road access or group progress prevents a same-day return, the trekking team will adjust the onward arrangements accordingly.
Planned overnight: Hotel in Skardu, subject to successful road transfer.
Flight from Skardu to Islamabad
After our remarkable journey through the Baltoro Glacier and Concordia, we prepare to return to Islamabad.
Subject to weather and airline operations, we take the scheduled domestic flight from Skardu to Islamabad. In clear conditions, the flight provides spectacular views of Pakistan's northern mountain landscapes.
